Overview

The YES PYL is a resort freeride snowboard that enables intermediate and up riders to “Pick Your(their) Line” and send it! With a tapered, directional shape, the PYL floats in powder and carves more naturally than typical twin snowboards. As the larger nose stays afloat and the smaller tail sinks in. The tapered shape also comes with YES’s Tapered Underbite technology. Which incorporates 2 additional contact points located at each binding insert pack. The width of the snowboard is reduced at each of these contact points, bumping inward to create that narrower tail. A progressively tighter sidecut is incorporated into the Tapered Underbite as well, improving the ability to carve hard, hold an edge, and really spring out of turns.

The PYL also comes with a directional camrock profile, delivering rocker in the nose, camber between the feet, and a more subtle rocker in the tail. This improves float in deeper snow without sacrificing edge hold, stability, or pop. The rocker zones in the nose and tail also help to improve ease of entry in and out of turns. Creating an even smoother carving experience.

These features are then paired with a slightly stiffer than middle-of-the-road flex to provide optimal stability, maneuverability, and snap. So, if you want to rip groomers, boost side hits, explore trees, and hunt powder pockets at your local resort, then this is the board for you!

profile

  • SINTERED TRUE - Harder & more expensive than extruded and faster for those that ride more aggressively. Just remember to wax!

  • 2x4 Insert Pattern.

  • 3 radial side cuts that work in tandem with the Tapered Underbite. At each Underbite location, the side tightens, going from 8m's to 7m's, then 6m's.

This make it easier to stay on a straighter line when steering off the front foot as that larger sidecut radius in the nose will track more straight. But when you want to rail a turn, you can smoothly transition to a tighter sidecut in the middle, and then an even tighter sidecut off of the tail.

To really "hook" and sling out of a tight turn when needed. Which will help to avoid "washing out" as well.

  • WEIGHTLESS - Balanced between lightweight & strength. Using a lower-density species of Poplar in areas that are less structural & Paulownia in the areas that are. Which shaves off precious weight. This helps the board to not only float but “feel” more floaty.

  • Triax Fiberglass delivering more rigidity to your ride.

  • TAPERED UNDERBITE - Similar looking to “wings” or bumps on a surfboard. Each side the board’s effective edge is segmented into 3 distinct sections. Beginning at the nose with a larger sidecut that steps inward by 2mm at the front binding area.

The sidecute tightens along the waist and continuoes until the rear insert pack where the edge steps in again 2mm. Where the tail portion then has the tightest sidecut.

Traditional “tapered boards” take the full sidecut & pull the tail inward, which is away from the arc of your turn – this contibutes to "wash out" under hard carving. The Tapered UnderBite corrects this by:

    1) keeping the sidecuts parallel to to one another.

    2) Increasing the sidecut depth as you move towards the tail creating a corrective “hook” to the taper. Blending into turns effortlessly, and increasing directional drive and float. While it holds an edge and rockets out of turns.

Rider review

I had a great time demoing the 2024/2025 YES PYL. It was more approachable than I anticipated. The previous year's model was listed as an 8/10 flex online, but I felt this board was much closer to 6.5 or 7 out of 10 flex. Soft enough to butter, nose press, and engage quick ollies but rigid enough to generate plenty of rebound and pop. You can definitely send it off side hits and rollers with ease. You’ll notice more of the rigidity in the tail, which helps with carves and drops. This flex also lends itself to being a bit more stable ride in bumpy terrain. However, it can still get bucked around a bit when you combine rough terrain with higher speeds.

I had a great time carving on this board. Its transitions in and out of turns felt smooth, and the edge-hold felt solid. The rocker in the nose and tail helped with that “smooth” transition feel, while the camber and tapered underbite helped with the locked-in edge hold feel. However, I did notice when I went to rail a harder, sharper turn at higher speeds, the board washed out a bit. I think this is due to the flex; if the board was a bit stiffer then this could be avoided potentially. But at that point, you would sacrifice play for stability, so it really depends on whether that is the style of riding you are looking for or not.

Riding switch was not an issue, although I wouldn’t say it’s a strong suit for this deck. Tree riding felt very natural; the board was easy and quick to turn with good torsional flex. I did not get to ride this board in powder, unfortunately, but I was able to charge through some softer patches of snow, and I never remotely felt like I was going to nosedive. So, with a little weight on the back foot, deeper days shouldn’t be an issue.

I’d recommend this board to intermediate riders who want to explore the whole mountain, go fast, and smash pow. But who also want to be laid back at times and have a bit of forgiveness so that they don’t always have to be on their A-game. Lastly, you could definitely take this board in the park for a few laps if you want. It wouldn’t be my first choice for jibs, but jumps and spins it’ll handle with ease.
