Overview

The Jones Mind Expander is a playful all-mountain snowboard that redefines what a directional freeride/powder shape can do. The directional camrock profile lends itself to smashing powder, ripping turns, and boosting jumps. While the tapered directional shape keeps the board nimble and unsinkable. This is all paired with a medium flex profile that balances stability and freestyle play.

It wouldn’t be a Jones board without their staple tech features, including 3D spoon shaping in the nose and tail for glide and forgiveness and traction tech along the side cut for grip in icy terrain. This well-crafted whip is then dressed up with Jones’ “mind-expanding” Base Graphic Surf Series Resin Dye. Check out the process posted by Jones on Youtube.

The Jones Mind Expander is ideal for the freeride, powder-hunting rider who still loves to take a lap in the park & send it off side hits every now and then. It is also great for intermediate and up riders who enjoy tree-riding and low-angle pow adventures.

PROFILE

3d shaping

  • 3.0 - Freeride focused 3D base -
3D Contour Base for fast glide & fluid turn initiation.

  • Flip-Flop Base - Producing two or more base color options minimizes p-tex waste. Order may be filled with either color. Color does not vary by size.

Sintered 8000 Base - Super durable material made from Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW-PE) & carbon. Base is easily repairable, highly wax absorbent & super fast.

  • 2 x 4 Insert Patter

Carve Pack - Allows for a more centered stance option when riding firmer snow.

  • Tighter sidecut for more nimble carving

  • Bamboo Surf Core -Triple-density bamboo surf wood core with primarily paulownia stringers and bamboo stringers positioned in the pocket of the sidecut for improved edge response & power in and out of turns.

  • Sustainable Flax / Basalt Stringers – Jones exclusive sustainable stringers are made with 100% natural fibers. Composite Flax and Basalt stringers help to transfer power to the edges more efficiently and improve torsional response while absorbing chatter.

Biax fiberglass - Dual-direction, dual-layer, stitched fiberglass laminate that provides a playful, forgiving & snappy ride.

Bio Resin - A bio-based epoxy made with 27% plant-based carbon instead of petroleum-based carbon. The organic raw materials used to make bio-resin are co-products or waste products of plant-based industrial processes. Bio-resin requires 33% less greenhouse gas emissions to produce than conventional epoxy.

  • Recycled Rounded ABS Sidewalls - Jones improves the sustainability of their snowboards by using only recycled plastic. The rounded shape also increases durability by protecting the topsheet from chipping.

  • Traction Tech 2.0 - This edge tech features three bumps per edge at the front binding, board center, and back binding. To increase edge hold in ice.

Oversized recycled edges - for added durability and improved sustainability.

  • Eco-plastic topsheet - Bio-plastic topsheet made from Castor beans. This eco-material is super light, chip/scratch resistant & water/snow repellent.

  • Resin Dye Inspired Base Graphic - Designed by Nainoa “Nye” Speier, an artist from San Diego who designs resin art for Christenson Surfboards, who originally made the resin art on surfboards. Those designs were then scanned and made into snowboard graphics.

  • Factory Tuned – Jones snowboards are factory de-tuned at the tip and tail to alleviate any “hooky” tendencies.

Wend Natural Wax – Jones boards are factory waxed with WEND natural wax.

Forever Flex - A manufacturing process that helps stabilize the flex of the board for its lifetime.

Rider review

I rode the 2024/2025 Jones Mind Expander earlier this year at Brighton Resort on an overcast day with cooler temps, but unfortunately, no powder. Due to the lack of pow, I got to test out this board on groomers, in the air, and through the trees. I was immediately impressed with its carving capabilities. I could hold an edge with no problem and could feel the tighter sidecut pushing me to do more quick and nimble turns. Basically, I felt like I could turn on a dime. The torsional flex was noticeable, which helped with foot steering, and I felt relatively comfortable at speed, although a little bouncy in harder/rougher terrain. The rockered-up nose made entry into turns effortless as well.

I could easily get in the air off rollers and side hits. Not mind-blowing, but not lack luster either. Spins and grabs felt natural, and I noticed the 3D shaping giving me some play on landings and butters, which gave a more surfy vibe. I should mention that the 3D shaping also made the turns feel a bit more fluid. When riding switch, I could feel the larger nose behind me, nothing horrible, but you’re aware of it. Especially when riding switch for an extended period. The mid-flex felt playful and sealed the deal on this board’s “fun & surfy” spirit.

The Mind Expander is slightly wider than your typical board, which, on groomers, I felt added stability but didn’t slow down the transition edge to edge. As you can probably guess from what I’ve mentioned so far, this board was a breeze to ride in trees. Quick to turn & stable enough to get through hard pack. If it had been a powder day, I imagine this board would have floated with ease and been able to get through tight, low-angle forests without issue. I’d recommend this board to intermediate and up riders who want to focus on exploring the whole mountain & slashing pow, but also love the occasional jumps, spins, and presses. I’d even go as far as to say a strong beginner could take this board on, if they know trees and powder hunting will be their passion. In short, the Mind Expander is playful, surfy, & can turn.
