Overview

The Jones Stratos is a lively all-mountain freeride snowboard that’s ready to go fast and boost to the stratosphere. The predominantly camber camrock profile keeps you stable at speed and locked in on turns. While the slight nose and tail rocker, directional shape, and taper keep you afloat on deep days.

Additionally, you get Jones’ traction tech for improved edge hold on ice and 3D spoon shaping in the nose and tail for enhanced glide and easier entry into turns. The directional shape, taper, and “swallow tail” are mellowed out so that you can still land switch and bring out your freestyle side without any hang-ups.

The Jones Stratos is great for intermediate to advanced riders who want to go fast, lay trenches, get in the air, and hunt powder.

PROFILE

3d shaping

  • 3D Freeride Focused Contour Base 3.0 - Featuring a balanced 7mm of spoon bevel in the nose and 7mm of spoon bevel in the tail. Spoon bevel starts at the rocker point.

  • Sintered 9900 Base - Made with Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW-PE) and Carbon. This ultra-fast base is easy to repair thanks to the UHMW-PE.

  • 2 x 4 Insert Pattern

Float Pack Inserts – Float Pack Inserts give you the option of a super setback stance for better float on those deep days.

  • Progressive Sidecut - The radius is incrementally increased at the outer ends of the sidecut as the edge reaches the contact points. Gradually increasing the sidecut radius towards the contact points delivers smoother turn initiation and exit as the edge tracks in and out of the snow with a less abrupt transition.

  • V-Core - This wood core is softer between the feet, delivering better torsional flex for easy turn initiation. The wood core is contrarily stiffer in the nose and tail for improved stability when riding through uneven terrain and landing airs.

FSC™ Ultra Core– The new Ultra Core is Jones' lightest wood core yet. Made from mostly paulownia with specially positioned poplar stringers for better durability & power.

  • Sustainable Flax / Basalt Stringers – Jones exclusive sustainable stringers are made with 100% natural fibers. Composite Flax and Basalt stringers help to transfer power to the edges more efficiently and improve torsional response while absorbing chatter.

Biax fiberglass - Dual-direction, dual-layer, stitched fiberglass laminate that provides a fun, forgiving & snappy ride.

Bio Resin - A bio-based epoxy made with 27% plant-based carbon instead of petroleum-based carbon. The organic raw materials used to make bio-resin are co-products or waste products of plant-based industrial processes. Bio-resin requires 33% less greenhouse gas emissions to produce than conventional epoxy.

  • Recycled ABS Sidewalls - Recycled ABS Plastic used on all Jones’ snowboard.

  • Traction Tech 3.0 - This edge tech features three bumps per edge at the front binding, board center, and back binding. The middle bump is slightly larger than the binding bumps for better grip.

Oversized recycled edges - Oversized recycled steel edges for added durability & improved production sustainability.

  • Textured Eco-Plastic Topsheet – Bio-plastic topsheet made from Castor beans featuring a subtle texture for added durability. This eco-material is ultralight, chip/scratch resistant & water/snow repellent.

  • Classic Wood Design - Like all Jones boards the graphic calls back to the mountains & trees that allow us to ride the white wave year after year.

  • Factory Tuned – Jones snowboards are factory de-tuned at the tip and tail to alleviate any “hooky” tendencies.

Wend Natural Wax – Jones boards are factory waxed with WEND natural wax.

Forever Flex - A manufacturing process that helps stabilize the flex of the board for its lifetime.

Rider review

I rode the 2024/2025 Jones Stratos, and the immediate stand-out features were its carving capabilities and pop. As soon as I dropped into the run, the board felt great to turn and get up on edge to carve. I felt like I could do small or large turns without any issues. I also felt that I could really lay into a turn and the board would support me without feeling like it was about to wash out. I still had the ability to torsionally flex the board a bit, which allowed me to make small foot steering adjustments.

The board felt like a stiffer flexing board but not a total plank. This allowed me to pretty much have no speed limit while still being able to maneuver quickly. The slight taper and 3D shaping contributed to this, especially when “hooking” out the end of turns.

I took the Stratos off a few side hits and into the park and had absolutely no issues boosting and clearing knuckles or rollers. I loved how energetic this board felt. I think this is in part due to the camrock profile having a longer camber section with less rocker, especially when compared to other Jones boards such as the Flagship. Riding and landing switch is very doable and not a major issue, but you can feel a difference due to the directional shape and the 10mil of taper. Basically, it's more switch-friendly than it looks. Trees were no issue either as I could swivel when needed; it was a bit easier with speed due to the stiffer flex.

I did not get to ride this board in powder, unfortunately. But given its taper, directional shape, camrock profile, and 3D shaping, I don’t think you’d have any problems staying afloat. I’d imagine it having a slightly surfy feel to it as well, based on how it turned on groomers. Although, I wouldn't say this is a dedicated powder board. Rather, an all-mountain freeride board that is still very powder capable. The solid amount of camber, stiffer flex, and non-excessive taper keep it more hardpack/all-mountain ready.

I’d recommend this board to confident intermediate riders and up who are looking to ride fast, get in the air, smash powder, and maybe take a few laps through the jump line in the park. Especially for those riders who know they lean towards freeride over freestyle and want one board to do it all.
